Top 10 Anime: Caring & Wholesome Edition

My top 10 cuteness overload, caring & wholesome-themed anime recommendations. There have been a few anime released with this theme over the past few years. From SpyxFamily to Buddy Daddies. I wanted to share some of my favourite anime recommendations for anyone looking to find a series around this caring theme.

Without further ado, here’s my list starting from number 10:

10. Jingai-san no Yome (2018)

Episodes: 12
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Josei
Studio: Saetta

This fantasy anime is based in a school with Tomari Hinowa who ends up living a married life with a fluffy monster. A few of his other classmates also have supernatural partners and we get to see their journey together in school life. It has a bit of a nonsensical plot but is an easy watch, therefore I have listed this as number 10. It is available on Crunchyroll.

9. Kotaro Lives Alone (2022)

Episodes: 10
Genre: Comedy, Slice of Life
Studio: LIDENFILMS

Produced by Netflix. Kotaro Lives Alone is about a four-year-old boy that moves into an apartment complex and lives by himself. He introduces himself to his next-door neighbour, Shin Karino with a box of tissues as a gift. Karino worries about Kotaro being by himself and starts to look out for him. They have a daily routine of going to the bathhouse together. Kotaro spends time with the rest of the residents in the apartment complex as they form a bond like a family. This has a bit more of a deeper concept compared to other anime on the list but also has comedy elements. We get to see the other character’s back stories too and how Kotaro’s presence has a good impact on them.

8. GUGURE! KOKKURI-SAN (2014)

Episodes: 12
Genre: Comedy, Supernatural
Studio: TMS Entertainment

This anime is full of comedy. Kohina lives by herself and summons a fox spirit, Kokkuri-san so she won’t be lonely. She is like a living doll with a straight face and a listless demeanor. However, with Kokkuri-San and his supernatural friends around life starts to get more fun for Kohina.

7. Somali and the Forest Spirit (2020)

Somali and the Forest Spirit cover

Episodes: 12
Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Studios: Statelight, HORNETS

Somali is a cute girl who stumbles upon a Forest Spirit, Golem and wishes to go with him. Somali tries to find her parents, and thus the journey begins. During their travels in a world full of supernatural beings and few humans, the pair meet various demons and monsters influencing them in a positive way. The soundtrack in this fantasy anime is beautiful. As well as the detailed artwork in the background. This anime is stunning, I would really recommend watching Somali and the Forest Spirit if you are into fantasy.  This anime adaptation is from the manga.

6. How to Keep A Mummy (2018)

Episodes: 12
Genre: Slice of Life, Supernatural
Studios: 8bit

Sora is a Highschool boy and his Father travels the world, sending him weird gifts from his journey. One day Sora receives a large package from his Dad, only to find a cute little Mummy and names it Mii-Kun. A few of Sora’s schoolmates also have mini pets. We get to see the bond develop between them and the cute little pets.

5. The Royal Tutor (2017)

The Royal Tutor

Episodes: 12
Genre: Comedy, Fantasy
Studios: Bridge

Heine becomes the Royal Tutor to the four brothers as he supports them to become suitable heirs to the the throne. The Princes all have unique personalities and my favourite is Kai the oldest Prince. He is shy and loves soft fluffy things 🙂 Available on Crunchyroll and Funimation. This anime is adapted from the manga.

4. SPY×FAMILY (2022)

Episodes: 24 (two parts to Season 1 split in 12 ep each)
Genre: Action, Supernatural
Studios: Wit Studio, CloverWorks

Of course, we have to include SpyxFamily in the cute and caring anime list 🙂 Anya is just adorable. Every single episode is thrilling and full of laughs and endearing moments. Part 2 anime OP with the autumn vibe is just amazing.

3. School Babysitters (2018)

Episodes: 12
Genre: Slice of Life
Studios: Brain’s Base

Ryuuichi and his younger brother, Kotarou are orphans and move in with their Grandma who is the Headteacher of the new school they join. The School has a babysitting area in which Ryuuichi and his classmate volunteer to spend time with their siblings. We get to see the endearing bond between the brothers as they adjust to their new setting. The dynamic between the other children and their guardians is cute too. This series is adapted from a manga.

2. Buddy Daddies (2023)

Episodes: 13
Genre: Action, Comedy, Slice of Life
Studios: P.A. Works

Buddy Daddies is an ongoing series at the time of writing this. It is action-packed with two assassins that encounter a young girl, Miri while on their mission and take her in. Becoming Miri’s Papa! We see their day-to-day life as the assassin friends juggle parenting and their work as an unconventional family. Miri is like a ray of sunshine that brings a positive change to Kazuki and Rei’s life. (Read my Buddy Daddies Review here) Compared to SpyxFamily where we see a big part of the show with Anya as the focal point with her inner monologues, Buddy Daddies main focus is more from the assassin duo’s POV.

1. The Yakuza's Guide to Babysitting (2022)

Episodes: 12
Genre: Slice Of Life, Mafia
Studios: Feel, Gaina

Adapted from the manga, The Yakuza’s guide to Babysitting is a lovely anime. Tooru is a notorious mafia member and is tasked to babysit his mafia Boss’s daughter, Yaeka. This new development slowly changes Tooru and makes him become softer. Yaeka grows fond of him as a babysitter and starts to come out of her shell more. Her Mother has been hospitalized for ages, however after spending time with Tooru her days are never boring. I would definitely recommend this anime! It’s full of endearing moments with great character development, created from a lovely bond.
