First Impression Review

I have seen the anime years ago before reading the manga, so it is refreshing to revisit this Josei gem in it’s manga form on Manta Comics.

Narumi Momose has left her old company after being outed as an otaku and her ex that worked in the company broke up with her due to being an otaku. She meets her childhood friend, Hirotaka Nifuji at her new work place who is also an otaku. He asks her out and they become an otaku couple.

She tries to hide she’s an otaku to maintain her work life, but ends up becoming outed by Hirotaka and befriends two other office colleagues that are an otaku couple too. We see the funny, romantic antics of both couples and the friendship between the four of them is endearing. For example Taro goes into father mode when he saw Narumi with another man and misunderstood the situation.

I love how chilled and supportive Hirotaka is of Narumi’s hobby. Such as helping her with the comic she is trying to complete the day before the comic event. He also doesn’t show much emotion on his face, however only smiles for her in such an expressive way it’s so cute!

Art Style

Love the character design in this manga, they all look so great and also love adorably funny snippets in between the chapters. Hirotaka’s younger brother Naoya looks so cute. when Taro and Manako fight the exaggerated block of text around them to express the rage bait is so funny.

Is it worth a read?

Absolutely! As a fellow otaku, this is one of my favourite Josei manga and anime with great office friendships and romance. The dynamic we see between all of them is great as it doesn’t just focus on romace between the main couples but a more rounded interaction with all of them showing their friendship too, especially how each couple supports each other.

I’d give this manga a 4.8 out of 5 and would happily recommend it! Would also recommend the anime, the opening song is so catchy.
