You enter the most dangerous court in the Empire to uncover the truth of your fallen noble lineage, not to fall in love. In this manhwa-inspired dark fantasy romance, the men behind the princely masks are nothing like what they appear. And by the end, neither are you.
Synopsis
As the only survivor of a fallen noble family, you enter the Empire’s most dangerous court with one goal in mind: Stay hidden. Uncover the truth. Get out alive.
Of course, things are never that easy. The court will try to break you, and the men behind the princely masks are not who they seem.
You’re not going to let love get in the way, are you? You came here for answers, not to lose yourself in a game you weren’t supposed to be playing.
Review
I’m reviewing Fate’s Masquerade Demo as part of this years Otome Celebration Steam Festival. My initial thoughts opening the game is I found the interface with the rich red and yellow victorian style design really palatable with the historical, noble setting.
The character design is what really caught my eye, manhwa style colourful main leads! You can name the Protagonist and there are two handsome love interests who are brothers and Princes’ of the nation.
I like the animated visuals especially the laughter and when the facial expressions change. e.g. Max fluttering his eyes open in one scene when we catch him napping in the library.
MC becomes the young Princess Amelia’s Governess in order to access the royal library to find out more about her family and past. It was kind of hard picking the right options, I ended up getting the bad ending a few times, however at the same time it was fun to see how the different options impact the story. As this is a short Demo it is easy to restart the game and skip to options, although I would also recommend saving before choosing an option with one of the Prince’s too.
Maximilian Windrake (The Crimson Reaper)
Territory after territory fell beneath this fearsome general. The war may be over, but he cannot lay down his armor. He does not converse. He commands. Will you crumble under his cold judgment, or conquer the conqueror?
He gives me Tsundere vibes. Not the best at soft skills since his world revolved around war, but seems like he has a soft side, looks really cute when he blushes. He is also engaged, however it is not out of love but a political matter.
Lucian Windrake (The Enigmatic Enchanter)
Beloved by all. Suspicious to anyone paying attention. He seems to know everything, appears everywhere, and asks the questions you can’t afford to answer. Can you outsmart his mind games, or will you willingly walk into his cage?
Based on the info above by Developer, it kind of foreshadows Yandere vibes maybe? He is a charmer and knows how to talk with the court ladies making them swoon even more, however behind that persona it seems like there is a more dangerous side to him.
Both brothers really adore their younger sister and because of this she becomes almost like a catalyst to female lead interacting with the brothers as Princess Amelia’s Governess.
Conclusion
Overall, based on this short Fate’s Masquerade Demo, the story is very well written and the world building is great with maps included and easy to navigate. Visually, the manhwa style character design is gorgeous and love the use of animation to enhance the scenes.
Based on the title and from what I’ve seen from the two male leads so far, I believe both male leads will have this duality which we may unmask as the story progresses. I find the protagonists plot interesting too, as she tries to find out her past about who she really is. Really enjoyed the demo 4.5/5 and so excited for the full release.
Thank you Small Serenity Studio’s for this wonderful demo 🙂
