First Impression Review
An Anime adaptation of this manga came out recently and it was so adorable yet emotive , both the male lead, Rintaro and female lead, Kaoruko are so cute!
Synopsis from Manta:
Chidori High is a boys’ school that takes in the dregs of society with the lowest grades. Next door stands Kikyo Girls’ High, where the wealthy, high-class families send their precious daughters. Chidori second-year Rintaro, who has a fierce face but a gentle heart, is helping at his family’s patisserie when he meets a girl named Kaoruko. The two hit it off right away…but this blissful peace is quickly disturbed when Rintaro discovers that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo. Worse, she doesn’t seem to realize what a huge problem this really is! Will these two be able to forge a path for themselves, and sidestep the traps (metaphorical and literal) laid by their classmates?
Rintaro is really tall and gets mistaken for a delinquent with his blonde hair, but he’s actually a big softie and makes cute desserts. Kaoruko loves eating desserts and meets Rintaro for the first time at his parents dessert shop whilst he’s working.
It’s great seeing how their love blooms and the sub-plots too as they overcome obstacles such as school rivarly themes from their friends biased opinions. However, it’s very endearing to see how their friendship groups develop and accept their relationship/friendship between the two.
It’s such a great story and all the main characters in the friendship group are likeable. Rintaro is such a green flag and Kaoruko is such a sweetie with a big appetite for dessert.
Art Style
Kaoruko’s outfits are so cute, it’s so adorable and inspiring, definitely a style I would wear for summer. Also love the way characters emotions are expressed, especially when they blush.
Is it worth a read?
Definitely worth the read! All the main characters are so endearing and main focus is not just love but also friendships which is so great to see.
I’d give this manga a 4.8 out of 5 and would happily recommend it! Would also recommend the anime, the opening song is so catchy.
